Government of Minas Gerais creates a forum to support micro-companies

Micro and small businesses in Minas Gerais will be able to count on yet another development incentive tool. A decree by governor Aécio Neves created the Permanent Forum for Micro and Small Businesses in Minas Gerais. This initiative by the Minas Gerais Government means a decisive step in its policy of supporting this important segment of Minas’ economy”, Marilena Chaves, the undersecretary for Industry, Commerce and Services, pointed out, on breaking the news to businessmen during the 9th Minas Gerais Forum for Micro and Small Businesses (Fomipe), in São João del Rei.

The forum is going to advise on formulating, proposing and following up implementation of government policies to support and Foster micro and small businesses, as well as promoting link ups between the different government bodies and representation entities and organized civil society that act in the State’s micro-business segment.

Their attributions shall also include suggesting and following up implementation and development of government actions regarding micro and small businesses in the State, including the field of legislation, by proposing actions and necessary measures, as well as proposing adjustments and improvements needed to effectively implement the policy to invigorate and develop this segment. 

Marilena Chaves reported that the forum will also meet the claims of micro and small business representatives working in synergy with government bodies, with a view to regulating the National Micro and Small Business Statute. “It Will be the competent state jurisdiction for taking care of the aspects relating to the distinct treatment dispensed to this sector and is one of our economy’s main pillars, although it needs team work in order to carry on growing freely”, she added. 

She also recalled that the state needs to encourage entrepreneurism increasingly. “This is the State of Partnerships, as Governor Aécio Neves has professed. The government is committed to try and make entrepreneurs’ lives easier in all sectors that contribute to economic and social development in Minas”, the undersecretary said.

The forum will be presided over by the State Secretary for Economic Development with the offices for Farming, Livestock and Supply, Finance, Science Technology and Higher Education, Planning and Management Environment and Sustainable Development and Tourism. In addition to the offices, the Institute for Integrated Development (INDI), the Board of Trade, Minas Gerais Development Bank (BDMG) and the Rural Expansion and Technical Assistance Company (EMATER) will also be represented.

The Economic Development Office will be in charge of accrediting support and representation entities as forum members. To be accredited, the company needs to work to develop and invigorate the micro-business and small business segment and have provenly operated at state and/or national level, as well as being formally established for at least five years.
